Writing a functional Resume or CV

The first and perhaps the most important aspect of job search, is to have a good Resume. Most of the times, it is a functional Resume, which scores over the rest. For preparing a Functional resume you will have to list all the experience that you hold, under different functional heads. You can select a number of headings, as per your requirements. After you have selected the headings you need to decide as to what would be the most suitable order to arrange them in.

Each of these headings should feature the work experience under different points, using bullets. As in case of a Functional resume you must include voluntary, or non paid work experiences that are relevant in terms of the next position, which you hold under the functional headings.

A good functional Resume, would typically feature a short summary in regard to the previous employer, the job titles along with dates, subsequent to the functional aspect of the resume. In case you feel that it would stop you from getting selected for the interview, then you might like to omit any references from your actual employment history.

Thereafter, we come to the Education/Qualifications segment. In this case, you should only mention the important qualifications, which you hold. So, in case you are a graduate, then in that case, you are not really required to mention lesser qualification. You may however, mention them in case you feel that it is important in respect to the job, which you are applying for. In case you have recently completed your education, then you can mention it in your profile, or you can do so on your cover letter.

After this, you can mention the trainings that you have undergone, if any. Do make it a point to include only the most important of the training courses on the resume. You can also opt against a separate section on training; so, you can combine it with the Education/Qualifications segment.

After this, you can move over to Personal Details segment. In this segment, you must mention your name and address, along with your home as well as cell phone numbers.

Thereafter, you can move over to the Interests segment. In this segment, you would mention the areas of your interest. Make sure that you keep this section fairly short. You should however, try to see to it, that your areas of interests match with the responsibilities of the position, which you are applying for.

A good resume, can drastically lower your wait for a good job and hence, it is better, that you take some pains, while you are preparing one.
